Personal Life
Lisa Kleypas was born on November 5, 1964 in Temple, Texas. Her father and mother are Lloyd and Linda Kleypas, respectively.
She attended Wellesley College where she majored in Political Science. During her summer breaks in college, she wrote novels. Lisa published her first novel at age twenty-one, just a few months after her graduation.
In 1985, she was named Miss Massachusetts and competed in the Miss America 1986 pageant in Atlantic City. Her talent was singing an original composition which allowed her to win the “talented nonfinalist” award.
In the same year, she became a full-time romance author and her books ranked as best-sellers. Her novels were also translated to over 20 languages and sold millions of copies around the world.
In October 1998, Kleypas was living in Texas and their home was severely affected by the flood due to heavy rains. She lost everything to the calamity except the clothes on her body and her purse. Her colleagues at that time sent them necessities to help them recover. One defining moment after they were flooded was when Lisa and her mom were shopping for basic necessities at the local supermarket and they both picked up romance novels. This cemented her decision to write romance novels instead of other literary works.
Aside from writing novels, she is also fond of playing the guitar and cooking. Lisa Kleypas lives in Washington with her family. She has two children, Griffin and Lindsay, with her husband, Gregory Ellis.
