Phillips Exeter Academy is one of the oldest secondary schools in the United States and one of the most prestigious in the world. In 2001 when he was in high school, he placed eighth at the USA Computing Olympiad. At the 2002 International Olympiad in Informatics, he won the silver medal.
While in high school, he developed the Synapse Media Player which is a music suggestion software, with Zuckerberg and others.
In 2002, he attended California Institute of Technology (Caltech), where he got a bachelor’s degree. in Computer Science. While in Caltech, he took part in the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) Collegiate Programming Contest where his team were the World Finalists in 2003 as well as the North American champions. The following year, they won 2nd place in the same competition.
In 2005, D’Angelo was one of the top 24 finalists in the International Topcoder Collegiate Challenge. During that time, he also developed an AIM buddy list website called BuddyZoo.
