Scott Kelly is an American engineer, retired astronaut and United States Navy.

Personal Life
Scott Kelly was born on February 21, 1964, in Orange, Essex County, New Jersey. Her parents are Richard Kelly and Patricia McAvoy Kelly. They particularly lived in West Orange where his parents are police officers. Kelly and his identical twin brother, Martin, graduated from West Orange Mountain High School in 1982. Even as a high school student, Scott worked as an emergency medical technician (EMT) in Orange and Jersey Cities in New Jersey.
He then went to the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. In his first year of college, Scott read “The Right Stuff” which was written by Tom Wolfe. Because of it, he decided to pursue a career in naval aviation.
After his freshman year, Kelly transferred to State University of New York Maritime College, where he received a Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (Navy ROTC) scholarship. The summer after that, he was aboard the SUNY Maritime’s training ship called Empire State V. He was aboard Empire State V again after his sophomore year.
Scott Kelly obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering in 1987. He received a Master of Science degree in Aviation systems from the University of Tennessee.
Professional Career
Scott Kelly then joined the United States Navy. He finished his initial flight course at Naval Air Station Pensacola (NAS) Pensacola, afterwards he was selected to fly jets. In 1988, he relocated to Beeville, Texas, for jet training at Naval Air Station Chase Field. He graduated as a naval aviator in 1989 and in 1990, completed his initial F-14 training. deployed to the North Atlantic and Persian Gulf aboard the aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower. During his naval career, Kelly covered about 8,000 hours in over 40 aircrafts and accomplished more than 250 carrier landings.
In 1995, Scott and his brother Mark applied to NASA to become astronauts. They were selected to be astronaut candidates the following year – the first siblings at that. Scott moved to Houston, and started training in Astronaut Group 16 at the Johnson Space Center in July 1996. After his training, he was assigned to work at the ISS.
