Neelam Kothari Soni was born on November 9, 1967, in Hong Kong. His Gujarati Indian father was named Shishir Kothari and his Iranian mother was named Parveen Kothari.
When she was a child, she learned to play the keyboard and danced Jazz Ballet. Her family has a jewelry business, making high-class and fine pieces.
Neelam went to the Island School in Hong Kong, where she was a member of Rutherford house. After spending her early childhood in Hong Kong, her whole family relocated to Bangkok.
She was in Mumbai on a holiday when director Ramesh Behl approached her. She decided to try her hand at acting. Her debut film was titled “Jawaani” in 1984, where she appeared alongside Karan Shah. Unfortunately, the film did not do well commercially. However, it can be said that this was just the start of her acting career and all turned out well for her as she worked in the film industry until 2001.
Professional Career
Neela Kothari’s performance in her debut film was commended by people in the show business industry in India. She received a lot of offers and later became popular for her role in the 1986 film “Ilzaam” opposite another starting actor, Govinda. Their pairing became so loved and famous that they starred in 14 movies including “Love 86” in 1986, “Khudgarz” in 1987, “Hatya” in 1988, and Taaqatwar” the following year in 1989”.
Neela also worked with Indian actor Chunkey Pandey in several films, like “Aag Hi Aag,” “Paap Ki Duniya,” “Khatron Ke Khiladi,” “Mitti Aur Sona,” and “Ghar Ka Chiraag.” With actor Prosenjit Chatterjee, she starred in the Bengali film called “Badnaam.”
In the 1998 movie “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai,” where she played as a VJ, she was acclaimed by the critics. She was also commended for her role in the family ensemble drama “Hum Saath Saath Hain,” in 1999 in which she played a supporting role.
