Michael Joseph Jackson was born on August 29, 1958, in Gary Indiana. He is the eighth of ten children of Katherine Jackson and Joseph Jackson. His mother played the piano and clarinet, and aspired to be a country singer. His father was a former boxer.
Their father formed a band called the Jackson Brothers which included Michael, Marlon, Jackie, Tito, and Jermaine. Michael claimed that their father was abusive towards him during their rehearsals and used to whoop him. Later, the group was known to be the Jackson 5.
From 1966 to 1968, the Jackson 5 toured throughout the Midwest. Their first single was called “Big Boy”, and was released in 1968 by Steeltown Records.
