Mark Sisson was born in Maine on July 20, 1953. He is the oldest of four siblings. He went to Williams College where he studied biology and is a premed candidate.
Sisson was very involved in athletics when he was younger. He was a long-distance runner. During his time as a runner for Portland Track Club in the 1970s, he was so outstanding that he was able to set a record. He decided to focus on running and forgo his medical career.
In 1980, he competed in the United States National Marathon Championships, finishing in 5th place. He also qualified for the United States Olympic Trials in that same year.
Because of the constant and heavy training, Mark found himself suffering from many injuries. He was diagnosed with osteoarthritis and tendonitis which put a halt on his running career.
When he couldn’t run so much anymore, this is when he discovered the triathlon. Since he can cycle and swim to his heart’s content, the sport won his heart and so he decided to pursue it.
He joined several competitions and he won 4th place in the Hawaii Ironman World Championships in 1982.

Mark Sisson was the chairman of the International Triathlon Union (ITU) Anti-Doping Commission and as the ITU’s liaison to the International Olympic Committee.
He started blogging (MarkDailyApple.com) by the end of 2006 where he shared his healthy recipes and health secrets with people.
In 2015, Sisson together with Morgan Buehler co-founded Primal Kitchen where people can find authentic food and ingredients to help them lead a healthy lifestyle. In 2018, the pair sold the brand to Kraft Heinz for a massive $200 million.
He also authored the books “The Primal Blueprint,” “The New Primal Blueprint,” “The Keto Reset Diet,” “Primal Endurance,” and “Two Meals a Day.”
