Personal Life

The American freestyle wrestler was born on July 8, 1988, in Camden County, New Jersey. He grew up specifically in the neighborhood of Sicklerville in Winslow Township. 

His parents are Janice and Leroy Burroughs, who are Evangelical Christians. He has three older siblings – Princess, Jenerra, and Leroy Jr.

Jоrdаn Вurrоughѕ went to Wіnѕlоw Тоwnѕhір Ніgh Ѕсhооl іn Саmdеn where he played three sports namely track, Americal football, and wrestling. He then moved to Lіnсоln High School where he finished his high school education. 

During his days as a high school wrestler, he became a three-time district champion, two-time regional champion, and state champion in his senior year.

He studied in the Unіvеrѕіtу оf Nеbrаѕkа on a scholarship and graduated in 2011 with a degree in Sociology.

When he was young, he did not show any interest in wrestling, but he grew to love it over time, and eventually became his profession.

In his freshman year of college, he was an NCAA qualifier even placed third at the Big 12 Conference championships.

In his sophomore year, he finished the regular season with a 34–6 record.  He was named the Outstanding Wrestler of the NCAA that year.

In the 2008 to 2009 season, his third year in college, he won the Cliff Keen title. He also broke the University of Nebraska’s single-season dual takedown record for the second consecutive year with 117 in 19 duals. He claimed his first NCAA title this season.

The next season, he suffered from a season-ending injury.

In his last year his college, he made a comeback and won the  Dan Gable Most Outstanding Wrestler award because of his amazing performance. After the season, he got the Dan Hodge Trophy and was declared the best collegiate wrestler in the country after having an undefeated season.

Jordan married Lauren Mariacher in 2013 and in 2014 their first son was born – Beacon Burroughs. They were blessed with a second child in 2016.

Professional Career

Jordan Burroughs turned pro in 2011, just three weeks after graduating from college. He jumped into the freestyle wrestling scene where he defeated all his competitors.

That same year, he was crowned as the World Champion and he also won the Pan American Games. 

In 2012, he represented the United States at the World Cup on May 12–13. He also took part in the Summer Olympic Games in London where he won an Olympic gold medal. 

In 2014, Jordan obtained the 2013 John Smith Award as USA Wrestling’s Freestyle Wrestler of the Year. 

In the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio, he failed to secure the Gold. After a long time, he came back, and in 2018, Burroughs won his sixth World Cup.

He is one of the most accomplished wrestlers of all time.
