Jay Shah was born on September 22, 1988 in India. He belongs to a wealthy political family who owns a lot of businesses. He is the son of a prominent politician named Amit Shah who was the Minister of Home Affairs and is the leader of the ruling party, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from 2014 to 2020. On the other hand, his mother is Sonal Ben Shah who is a home-maker & social worker.
He graduated from Nirma University with a Bachelor of Technology degree. He underwent cricket training in Ahmedabad in the state of Gujarat, under Jayendra Sehgal.
As a student, he became the leader of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, a right-wing student organization in India which is affiliated to the Hindu nationalist Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
Shah married Rishita Patel in a traditional Indian wedding in February 2015. They have been blessed with a daughter after a few years of marriage.

Jay Shah started his career by being one of the directors of Temple Enterprise. The company was founded in 2004 and had to close down after 12 years in October 2016.
After working at Temple Enterprise, he started Kusum Finserve on February 22, 2013, a financial company where he owns 60 percent of the stakes. It is based in Gujarat in India.
As a cricket administrator, he first started out in 2013 as the joint secretary of Gujarat Cricket Association. During his term, the Narendra Modi Stadium which is the largest cricket stadium in India, was built.
In 2015, he became a member of the finance and marketing committees of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) which is in charge of the finances for the Indian cricket board. He was also appointed as the secretary of the board in October 2019 and was elected as the president of the Asian Cricket Council in January 2021.
