Alan Hamel was born on June 30, 1936, in Toronto, Ontario in the Great White North.  He is of Jewish heritage and Canadian nationality. Not much is known about his parents and his siblings.

When it comes to his education, in 1954, he was in the television arts program at Ryerson Institute of Technology but he did not complete his studies.

His lovely wife is the actress, author, and entrepreneur Suzanne Somers (nee Mahoney). They have been together since 1977 and have been so for more than 40 years.  

Suzanne is an actress, author, and businesswoman. She appeared in various shows and movies such as “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,” “Keeping Secrets,” “Chrissy Snow,” and “Step By Step” to name a few.

She is also a writer with “A New Way to Age,” “The Sexy Years,” “Two’s Company,” “Tox-Sick” and more. “Suzanne Organics Skin Care, Hair, and Make-Up” was also founded by Somers. 

Alan Hamel has two children, Stephen and Leslie, with his first wife Marily Hamel.  Leslie is a costume designer while Stephen is a writer. Alan is also a stepfather to Bruce Somers, Jr., Suzanne’s son from her previous marriage.

Professional Career

He became a weekend announcer at CKVR-TV and CKBB Radio. He then rose to fame when he co-hosted the children’s television show “Razzle Dazzle” from 1961 to 1964.

Hamel would, later on, hose the game shows “Wedding Party” and “The Anniversary Game” which aired in 1969. During the late 1970s, he hosted “The Alan Hamel Show” on CTV for four years. People magazine named him “Canada’s leading TV talk show host.”

The TV host also made several guest appearances in some shows like “Lou Grant,” “She’s the Sheriff,” and “The Last Hurrah.”

Alan also appeared in commercials for American Stores, a chain of supermarkets. He also did advertisements for Acme Markets and Alpha Beta stores.
