Personal Life

He attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry from 1991 to 1998, the same year as Harry Potter. He was sorted into Slytherin and became friends with fellow Slytherins Vincent Crabbe and Gregory Goyle. Being pure-blood and his family believing in pure-blood supremacy, he often looked down on half-bloods and muggle-borns. In the novel and movie adaptation, it was made clear that he is Harry Potter’s rival.
In his second year at Hogwarts, Draco became the Seeker on the Slytherin Quidditch team. Harry and his friends, Ron and Hermione, suspect that Draco is the new heir to Slytherin who has opened the Chamber of Secrets. He always mocked Hermione because she was a mudblood. By the end of the movie, the three realize that they were wrong.
Draco attended the 1994 Quidditch World Cup with his parents, seated at the luxury box seats. At Hogwarts, this is the year of the Triwizard tournaments where three schools are competing. Harry was chosen as a champion which made Draco so envious.
The following year, Malfoy became a Slytherin prefect along with Pansy Parkinson. He also joined Umbridge’s Inquisitorial Squad, which gave him some power over the students, especially to Harry and his friends.
In 1996, Draco joined the Death Eaters, replacing his father who was incarcerated in Azkaban. Voldemort has also given him the task to kill Hogwarts’ headmaster Albus Dumbledore. These occurrences made Draco withdraw socially and lost interest in Quidditch. At the Astronomy Tower, with the chance to finally kill Dumbledore, Draco failed, and in this moment, Severus Snape stepped in for him.
The Malfoys avoided imprisonment in Azkaban due to their last-minute switch in allegiance when Narcissa lied to Voldemort about Harry’s death.
