Francis “Chiz” Escudero was born to a family of politicians on October 10, 1969, in Manila, Philippines. He is the second of the three children of Salvador “Sonny” Escudero III, the former Agriculture Minister and representative of the first district of Sorsogon, and congresswoman Dr. Evelina B. Guevara-Escudero the representative of the First District of Sorsogon.
He attended the University of the Philippines Integrated School for primary and secondary education. He received his bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of the Philippines Diliman in 1988 and in 1993, he obtained his Law degree from the same school.
In 1991, Escudero became the U.P. Open Debate Champion. He was also a consistent honor student, and a member of the Order of the Purple Feather or the U.P. Law Honor Society.
He was a teaching assistant at the Department of Political Science from 1999 to 1989.
His family and friends like to call him “Chiz.” He has two kids who are fraternal twins, with his first wife. After he and his first wife separated, he married a famous Filipino actress, Heart Evangelista.
Professional Career
Chiz Escudero was only 28 years old when he went into politics. In 1998, he was elected representative of the 1st district of Sorsogon and became one of the youngest lawmakers in the 11th Congress.
He was elected Assistant Majority Floor Leader of the 11th Congress from June 1998 to November 2000 and became Second Deputy Majority Floor Leader from November 2000 to January 2001. Afterwards, he was appointed Assistant Deputy Majority from January to June 2001. From 2004 to 2007, in his last term,, he served as Minority Floor Leader.
While in Congress, he pushed for Sorsogon to become a city.. On August 16, 2000, Republic Act 8806 was passed, and Sorsogon was officially a city on June 30, 2001.
In 2007, Chiz Escudero was elected to the Senate and got the second highest number of votes. He was a senator from 2007 to 2019 for two terms.
He unsuccessfully ran for vice president of the Philippines in the 2016 elections.

In 1999, Chiz Escudero married Christine Elizabeth Flores, a singer and stage actress. They have two children, fraternal twins, one boy and one girl, born September 7, 2007. They were annulled in 2011.
He was then engaged to the actress Heart Evangelista in August 2014. They got married on October of the following year in Balesin Island, one of the most luxurious and exclusive islands in the Philippines.
