AJ Hawk was born on January 6, 1984 in Kettering, Ohio. He grew up in Centerville and studied at Centerville High School.
In high school, he was teammates with the former Cincinnati Bengals kicker Mike Nugent. It was during his freshman year that he became a part of the football team.
He holds multiple defensive records and was one of three active NFL players who played for the Centerville Elks high school football team. His records include most tackles in a game and all-time high career tackles. Moreover, AJ Hawk was a two-time All-State player in high school two consecutive years in 1999 and 2000.
After playing for Centerville High School, he played college football at Ohio State. He played for the Ohio State Buckeyes from 2002 to 2005.
Professional Career
In 2006, AJ Hawk was drafted by the Green Bay Packers as the 5th overall. He was a first linebacker. His first professional regular-season game was against the Chicago Bears. For that game, he made five combined tackles and one pass deflection in their 26–0 loss.
In his first season, he started in all 16 games. He finished his first year in the NFL with 119 combined tackles, 3.5 sacks, two interceptions, six pass deflections, and a forced fumble.
In January 2008, he played in his first career playoff game. In that season, he started as the left outside linebacker for the third consecutive season.
The team made several changes the following season and Hawk was moved from weakside linebacker to inside linebacker.
In February 2011, he played in Super Bowl XLV with the Green Bay Packers. In March 2011, the team released Hawk because he was due $10 million for the 2011 NFL season. However, the Packers signed him again the following day with a five-year contract.
In the latter part of his career he played for his hometown Cincinnati Bengals. AJ Hawk also played for the Atlanta Hawks.
