Wendy Moten was born on November 22, 1964, in Memphis, Tennessee, where she also grew up. Her mother is Viola Moten and her father is James Moten. Her father was the musical Director at the St. Stephen Baptist Church. She sang in her father’s choir as a child.
She studied at the Overton High School also in Memphis, Tennessee. She was part of the popular Overton Choir under the direction of Lulah M. Hedgeman.

Wendy Moten joined USA’s The Voice Season 21 under Blake Shelton’s team. For the blind auditions, she sang “We Can Work It Out” by The Beatles. She reached the finale for that season and was declared the runner-up.
