Myron Mixon was born on May 31, 1962, in Vienna, Georgia, United States. His father is Jack Mixon and his mother is Gaye Mixon. He also has two siblings named Vince and Tracy Mixon.

He started in competitive barbecue in 1996 at a competition in Atlanta, Georgia. He won in the whole hog category and third place in the pork shoulder competition. Myron’s father taught him how to barbecue, so he named his company after him, “Jack’s Old South.”
The chef is also the author of several cookbooks. He wrote “Smokin’ With Myron Mixon” in 2011, “Everyday Barbecue: At Home With America’s FavoritePitmaster – Myron Mixon” in 2013, and “Myron Mixon’s BBQ Rules” in 2016.
