Early Life

Lomachenko was born on February 17, 1988, in Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi, Ukrainian SSR, Soviet Union. He got his education from South Ukrainian Pedagogical University. 

Lomachenko was coached by his father, Anatoly Lomachenko, from a very early age. According to him, if his father were not a boxing coach, he would have chosen ice hockey as a profession. Interestingly enough, his father did not begin box-coaching the champ until he attended Ukrainian dance classes, a tradition. He also joined gymnastics before finally getting into the ring as a boxer. 

Personal Life

Lomachenko is married to Olena and has a son Anatoly.  He lives with his family in Camarillo, California, the United States. The tattoos on Lomachenko’s torso are of his father and trainer. 

Professional Career

Before starting his professional career, Lomachenko had a very successful amateur career. He began his amateur career in the 2007 World Championship in Chicago. He won against Abner Cotto in the first round of the featherweight division. He got himself into the finals by defeating Theodoras Papazov, Arturo Santos, and Li Yang. He lost to the Russian Boxer, Albert Selimov, in the final round by 11-16. 

In 2008, he defeated Selimov in the first round in Olympic Games in Beijing, China. He then won gold medals and got the “Val Barker Trophy” for being an outstanding boxer of the tournament. He also won the 2008 European Championships. He started his winning streak in 2012 and won gold.  He has won two Olympics consecutively and World Championships during his amateur career. 

Lomachenko has an impressive world record of winnings. He competed in the lightweight level of the World Series of Boxing (WSB) in 2013 before turning into a professional boxer. Some count these winnings of WSB in his professional achievements instead of considering them a part of his amateur career.

Vasyl Lomachenko is a boxing superstar with many titles and accolades to his name, such as the current WBA (Super) and “The Ring” lightweight champion. He won his first professional fight against Jose Ramirez, and he only lost once in his life to Orlando Salido (in his second fight). He has won four consecutive fantastic featherweight titles. He is known to have swift hand movement, speed, timing, creativity, and footwork. He has a remarkable record of 396 wins.
