She studied at Bombay Scottish School, Mahim, and went to college at Mithibai College which is affiliated with the University of Mumbai. She completed her degree of Bachelor of Commerce.

Professional Career
Ekta Kapoor began her professional career at the age of 17. She interned with Kailash Surendranath, an ad and feature filmmaker. At first, she got financial support from her father when she decided to become a producer establishing Balaji Telefilms.
Her initial projects and releases were scrapped and always rejected. In 1995, “Mano Ya Na Mano” was acquired by Zee TV. In the same year, “Dhun Damaka,” a music-based show, was also selected by Doordarshan. Her first success came with the sitcom “ Hum Paanch.”
In 2000s, ‘K’ became her lucky letter. All of her shows starting with letter ‘K’ became successful like “ Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi,” “Kasautii Zindagii Kay,” “Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki,” “Kabhii Sautan Kabhii Sahelii,” and “ Kaahin Kissii Roz.”
