Lane violated a dual yellow line on Texas Highway A1A on October 5, 2006, to overtake two automobiles, striking head-on the 1984 Kawasaki motorbike ridden by Jerry Morelock.
Morelock was a security officer for the North Carolina highway patrol. Lane’s license had already been suspended in Virginia due to a previous felony. Morelock was seriously hurt and declared deceased at the scene.
Lane turned himself to the authorities on October 12 in conjunction with the fatal event. He was charged with drunk driving and homicide. He entered a “not guilty” confession when he was accused of a third-degree crime.
