When he was 15, a friend noticed his skill in cricket and suggested that he join an inter-school tournament. When he was starting out, his father was very concerned because he wasn’t fit and strong enough for the physical demands of the sport. HIs father then enrolled him into a gym.
At the start of Patel’s playing career, he was a batsman but later switched to bowling to increase his chances of playing for India national team and other leagues.

Professional Career
In the Indian Premier League, Axar Patel was first signed by Mumbai Indians just before the 2013 season, although he was on the bench for the entire season. In the ACC Emerging Teams Cup 2013, he was one of the key contributors to India Under-23s’ title win.
He was also one of the best players for Gujarat in the 2013-2014 Ranji Trophy where he completed the season with 369 runs at an average of 46.12 and 29 wickets at 23.58. In early 2014, he was named the BCCI Under-19 cricketer of the year for the previous season.
In 2014, he was signed by Kings XI Punjab and had a great season with 17 wickets. He was retained by the same team the following season.
He was only the 9th Indian player to take a five-wicket haul on Test debut and only the second left-arm spinner after Dilip Doshi to take a five-for in his debut Test
